Racing Update
Wednesday, 10 June 2009

Well we now have 4 races under our belts and you know what? It keeps getting better. On May 24th we had a make up race because the May race got rained out. Guy and Jon both finished the day with 15 points each. Adam came in second with 14 and Patrick came in third with 12 points. These races are so close that if you blow just one turn you can cost yourself the race. The other biggest factor is the start. If you time it just right you can take the led at the start and keep it. The warbirds are a kick in the pants. Because of their speed it was decided that we would do 15 laps instead of the normal 10. So far there have been no issues with the batteries lasting the extra 5 laps. Todd brought out a gorgeous ME109 to race but unfortunatly the plane did not seem to want to fly but check out how the grapes were growing instead. Adam seemed to forget how to go AROUND the pylon and cut out his first 2 races but came back to win his last heat. Both Steve and Brian G had great days with 13 and 14 points apiece, and don't forget the flexy flyer Patrick who shared 1st place for the day with Steve. Jon S had the nicest and most scale plane with a beautiful Sea Fury from E-flite complete with retracts.

June's race was no less exiting. Robbie "Red" even came out to play with the guys. T-28's had 15 racers this month with a couple of guys away like Ian and Brian B. Guy's winning streak died this month while on his second heat race he clipped the ground. The plane was fixed and he made the 3rd heat. Jon S took advantage and took home the big 15 for the day taking first for the day. Jon probably has more stick time on his t-28 than anyone. Adam came in tied for second for the day with 14 points winning his first 2 and then losing to Jon in the 3rd heat race to take second despite a cut pylon. Brian G was also second putting in a great performance. His third heat race was so close but in the end Jeff and Steve both cut out but Germone help his turns to win. Robbie took home third for the day. He borrowed Steve's Back up T-28 for the day and got a 1st ,2nd ,and 3rd. Not bad for his first time out. Ya right he should have whooped us all. Warbird's are like watching a few planes in a blender. They can suck up a lap in under 10 second's. Get four of them going and there is a blur of planes. Steve Cole came home the winner for the day with 3 wins for 15 points. His new Mustang is a screamer. I know, for three races I tried to catch him but I just couldn't do it. Jon Stychno tied for second for the day with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Adam also tied for second with 3 2nd place finishes. Just couldn't catch Steve. Germone came in third with a 2nd and two 3rd's. His highly modified mustand is one of the fastest planes out there.

The points standings through 4 races in T-28 is Guy 55, Jon S 51, Adam 48, Merle 43, Steve 42, Patrick 36, Brian G 35, Jeff 32, Brian B 30, Phil 29, Bryon Y 27, Roy 24, Dave 24, Todd 22, Robbie 12, Tony 11, Ian 8, Justin 4, Elliot 2. Warbird standing through 4 races Steve 42, Adam 41, Brian G 41, Jon 39, Patrick 25, Merle 17, Jeff 14, Ricky 6.

Hope to see you next month on the 5th of July.

Adam

Get back on the lake! - Memorial Day
Monday, 25 May 2009
After much discussion and many meetings with the Salvation Army and their Manager Roger Swann; it was decided to allow us to continue to fly model airplanes and boats at Sal Lake. Our 2009 float fly schedule is now back on (see the event calendar). To start us off, the next float fly will be Monday May 25, Memorial day. It's short notice but I know we can make it. Remember to stop at Trentadue Field and pick up your frequency number and leave your cell phone number before you come to the Lake. John Lehito is on board to be our dead stick retriever for the day. See you there, Sid.

Pylon Race Update
Monday, 04 May 2009
Hello, it was a tough call but we had to cancel the races this morning due to the weather. Those of us that showed up still flew and had a good time though. The board members will discuss when we will have the make up race on tues and I will let you guy's know when it will be. hopefully we will have it sometime this month maybe the 23rd. Guy, Steve, Merle are leading the T-28 class and Brain G, Adam, Merle lead the warbird class. 14 people have points in T-28, although there are more racers than that, but as you know things happen. And we are now up to 6 racers in the warbird class with a few guy's waiting in the wings for the next race. I hear Jon has a new plane he's working on, Guy and Jeff P also have planes. This looks to be exciting for the next race. There is talk of adding five more laps to the warbird class since the go so fast. Let me know what you think about that. So to those of you who are not racing get a plane and come have some of the most fun you can legally have with foam.

Family and friends opening day event
Wednesday, 08 April 2009
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16th for a special Wine Country Flyers event. Our traditional Opening Day Event is about to be held at our new field at Trentadue Wineries. In the past, this event was open to the general public and we would typically see attendance of over 150 people, and that strained our parking capacity at the Transfer Station. With current parking capacity limited to something just over 35 spaces we can’t sponsor an event of that magnitude but we can still have a great event for our members, their families and friends. We will have our traditional BBQ with Fatburgers and Polish hot dogs prepared by Bob Film and his Kitchen Crew. The event officially starts at 10:00am with open flying but will soon feature WW2 warbirds, aerobatic demos, heli demos, Pylon Racing, B-25 fly bys with Merle MacGregor, and maybe a Jet or two. You don’t want to miss this memorable occasion, do you?
