Title: EF-1 & Parkzone racing in Woodland
Post by: Red on March 25, 2013, 07:21:45 AM
Guys,

Coming up next month on April 20th & 21st, the Woodland/Davis Aeromodelers Club is hosting an EF-1 & Parkzone race. The races are two separate one day events. That works out good for me as I can't make the 20th. This is the official 3 pylon AMA course complete with computerized off course timing system. This is you chance to race on an official course and see what you are made of. To me this is the most fun racing that there is. You get to fly around yourself (which I think is easier) so the sensation of speed is heightened. It sucks because it lands on our normal race weekend, but I will be there, so you should too  ;D Come on fellas...grow some hair!

Parkzone rules attached. More info here: http://www.nmpraforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4536 Map to Woodland field: http://www.wdarc.org/Map.htm

Who's in?

Red -yes
Cole- yes
Tony & Jake-maybe
Jon-?
Adam-?
Wylie-?
Jeff-?

Any others interested?
There is rumored to be a special guest appearance by Bryan Germone!

I'm still working on trying to get out of work so I can make it to those races. I'm very interested in racing the parkzone warbird class I think that's something our club should start doing!

I was hoping to make this race, but hate to miss a club race. Is there any talk of moving the date of our April club race? That would make the decision to go an easy one, and WCF would have a strong presence.

If all you guys make the trek out there to race on the 21'st, attendance will be rather sparse at our own race day. I have no problem with moving our own race day up to the 14'th ( since the 28'th is a Float Fly day ) as noted in our latest Newsletter. We just need to spread the word, and soon, and make sure that all parties interested are aware of the change -- if that's what we do. I would hate to see people show up on the normal race day and discover that they're a week too late. Especially newcomers and out-of -towners like Will from Napa. That could tend to piss some people off.

I think that moving our race with adequate notice is a good thing.  We should avoid being at odds with other clubs if we can help it.

Plus, now that I'm hooked on racing I'd like to get my fix at our field sooner;)

I'm in for moving our race, anybody else?

Works for us to move the next race to 4/14 (preferred) or 4/28.

April 14th works for me too. I had a great experience last year at the Woodland races and encourage anyone to give it a try.

I'm fine with the 14th, and I'll be heading out to WDA for the 3 pole race!

It sounds like moving the race up to the 14th is reaching a consensus. How should we inform everyone concerned about the change? A bold declaration on the home page of our website -- by Patrick? Individual e-mails sent out to everyone who showed up at the first round? A combination of both? We need to make the decision official, and broadcast the change soon, so that everyone knows it. Maybe we should send an e-mail out to ALL the club members, informing them of this one-time change, so that anyone interested in participating is aware. I was expecting more participants showing up for the T-28 class at our first race. Maybe the windy weather held them back. Maybe the weather will be terrible on the 14th AND the 21st. Who knows? I just don't want to see potential racers showing up, finding NO RACING that day and feeling that our schedule is flawed and inconsistent, and never return.

Emails to everyone and a web site blurb seem like the way to go.

Absolutely.  Will the Race Team be putting the message out?

Thanks

We can certainly craft the message, but we'll (I'll) need a member email list or have someone else distribute it.

All,

The regular April monthly WCF Pylon race will be moved up one week from April 21st to April 14th.  This is due to a competing event April 20th & 21st that the Woodland/Davis club is holding, as a high number of our regular participants will be attending this race. Racing will resume according to the normal schedule with the May race.

Well the Woodland race is in the books. It was extremely windy Saturday and much better today, with only about 10 kts. straight down the runway. I think the wind scared some folks off, the turnout was pretty light. WCF was very well represented though, with 3 pilots on Saturday and 5 today! It was also great to see other club members Chuck McDonald, Jake Boatman, Wylie Walters, John Reade & Julio Alvarez also show up for some moral support. Julio was taking lots of video, and Jon had his helmet mounted GoPro, so we should have some great video soon!

Saturday:

Huge congratulations to Tony McDonald who won, Jake McDonald 3rd & fast time, & Jon Stychno 4th.

Sunday:

I was able to take first & fast time, Steve Cole and John Stychno were tied for 3rd, so that came down to a fly off. Steve was able to take the win for 3rd, Jon 4th.

So all in all a spectacular weekend of racing. I know Jake and Wylie expressed interest in giving it a shot, so hope to see them out there soon. 3 pole racing is a blast!

Wine Country Flyers kickin' ass!! This is awesome.
Let's see if I got this straight. Saturday was the Parkzone Warbird racing and Sunday was the EF-1?
Is that right?

Regardless, you guys did a fine job representing the club.

Could someone (most likely Tony for Saturday and Red for Sunday) send me an article detailing the experience for our next month's Newsletter?

I just sent out the April Newsletter....check your e-mail....but this would be perfect for next months edition. It's all about maintaining the stream of content, with plenty of content the Newsletter is easy.

Any articles submitted, and also photos...the more photos the better...will be faithfully added to my Dropbox account and saved forever. If I get inundated with good stuff I may have to spread it out a bit, but don't hesitate to submit ANYTHING. Submit something while your memory is fresh and rest assured that I will keep it.

Dave,

Each day was a separate EF-1 race. I don't think they had any PZ racers.

Red,

Okay, I got it. Reading one of your earlier posts about this event I misunderstood.
Yet still I throw it out there...you think you could come up with a newsletter article for next month?

It sounds like it would be very entertaining.
