1  General Category / General Club Discussion / 71" AJ Slick 3DHS on: December 13, 2014, 09:18:33 AM
Hi guys,

I have been looking at people flying bigger aerobatic planes lately and decided that I wanted something a little bit bigger than the Katana. I still want it electric but I want it to be above a 70" wing span. I looked around a little bit and decided that the best plane to buy would be the 3DHS AJ Slick. I would like some advice from you guys on whether there is a better 3D plane out there that is still electric but has a wing span of over 70". Also if someone has a used 71" AJ Slick that they might be willing to sell. All advice is appreciated.

Thank you,

Ben
2  General Category / General Club Discussion / doubling 2 3s batteries to make a 5,000map 6s battery on: September 09, 2014, 08:37:18 PM
Hello guys Ben here,

I've now finally made up my mind to spend my money on the new v2 fa/18 super hornet by motion rc. It is the same plane as Dylan's except it is an f18. I was gung ho about buying it until I saw the price of a 6s battery. I'm wondering with the f18 can I dual set up 2 3s to make a 6s? I've done it in my Katana MX but am wondering if it would be any different with ducted fans. Please tell me if I should try this set up or not Cheesy

Ben has a school obligation on Saturday morning, so we won't be able to make it. Likely we'll be up Sunday though if the weather holds.

Big impact for folks living near SF. I know some of you also stop by when you are heading to/from the South Bay.

Speaking for the Mackles family, it was an amazing and inspiring day - seeing the history of Edwards, meeting with the other NASA scientists/engineers, seeing Red's shop and some of the really ground breaking work that can only be done through scale models. We highly recommend taking Red up on this offer, it's worth the trip down even if just for the tour. Thanks again Red. Loops or limbo, Ben is happy to go with either alternate. Question on the egg drop - does it need to fall out of the cup or can you tap into any of the servos?

Very interesting, hadn't thought of that but it makes great sense. Looking forward to the next update.

Thanks Red, that's a great story (and glad to hear you are doing well).  Coincidentally we watched this documentary on how some of your NASA compatriots recreated the Horten brother's design to see it's stealth. Definitely worth a view - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaJzKjtjZnY

Ben and I wanted to wish everyone luck next week. We're on the East Coast this month and won't be able to race. See everyone in August!

Works for us to move the next race to 4/14 (preferred) or 4/28.

Thanks Adam, very generous of you. We went ahead and built one over the weekend, and took a few test flights. Looks like we'll be up next weekend to test it on the course.

Lots of fun yesterday. We'd like to try the dog fighter class next time, but I couldn't find the specs on the website. Do we get the stock Multiplex Dogfighter RR (with the modified prop) or different specs?  Also does it matter which battery we run? Thanks.

Question for the race officials - our T-28 is flyable but has a pretty good chunk of foam missing from the front part of the wing. Do we need to fill this with foam or can we just shape some plastic sheeting to complete the airfoil. Want to make sure this doesn't disqualify us. Thanks.
