46  General Category / General Club Discussion / Re: 2013 Pylon Racing Discussion on: January 24, 2013, 02:36:37 PM
Got started on the build and thought I would point out somethings. The motor mount will fit the 450 and 480 but would take modifying the mount to fit the eflite power 10.  Sad We'll see what the 450 does and go from there. Also the way the push rods are done they have you connect the long push rod to a short one via to setscrew collet's. Might want to do something there as I think it is a weak point.
The rest of the plane is great. The finish on the fiberglass fuse looks like glass. I had to do some heat gun and iron work on the wings and tail but that's pretty normal. I'm looking forward to see what this Cosmic Wind will do. Cool

I have purchased a Cosmic Wind from Jakes Performance Hobbies. Grin Because I will be testing it for a possible new class Jake Gave me a Awesome Deal. Shocked Thanks Jake!!! The Idea was to try and get a plane we could drop our 450 or dogfighter gear into. I don't know if we can get the speed we want with the 450 but I will bring a few different props to kick around with. If props don't work I'll try something bigger. The recommended motor is roughly 480 size. Maybe the dogfighter setup with a 9x9 prop. Got those coming out my bum.  Grin
I  like the Cosmic Wind idea. Same idea as the dogfighter. A one airframe class using a spec motor is very appealing to me. It comes down to pilot skills not airframes. However, the more people in a class the better. More people to dice it up with. After talking with a few people they could go either way. Cosmic Wind or Dogfighter. I want to race the class with the most people. I've been doing 450 for 6 years now and want something new so I still vote for 4 classes.  What do you guys think about that?
I hope to have both the Cosmic Wind and the Proud Bird out on Sunday. Hope the weather clears up.  Smiley

Now Tony, just cause you won an airplane at the xmas party lol....... Grin. Racing large scale electrics would be costly and probably out of my price range. Sad Larger foamy warbird's are out there but they are made of epp or epo and don't modify well(if you trying to copy a Reno Unlimited racer), not like the thunder tiger warbirds anyway.
As for the meeting of minds I would like to get as many racers together as we can for it. We could email all the racers with a date and see how many we could gather together. Jake has told me his horizon rep said the t-28 may be revamped for the summer so we may be losing our entry level plane.  Cry Lot's of ideas to talk about.

What do you guy's think of having a meeting for the racers to discuss this. I find it hard to type things out so people don't take you the wrong way. Grin I was talking with Jake and he thinks it's a good idea. We would need to do it soon so we can have time to build whatever we decide on. What do ya think?

Don't we have Dogfighter and Ef1 for those that want to go fast. Having 3 fast classes and 1 slow does not make sense to me. Huh Plus what $40 dollar packs are out there that will be competitive. I got lapped all year using Turnigy 65c bats. Switched to thunder power for the last race and was no longer Chasing everyone.  :oYa there are $40 packs out there, if you want to come in last. Just my 2 cents. Grin  Adam

52  General Category / General Club Discussion / In dire need of paintball planes!! on: May 01, 2012, 05:44:23 PM
Fellow club Members,

On Sunday May 6th is our annual opening day airshow. We need a couple more old planes in working order to shoot down. Right now we have 1 1/2 airplanes and need at least two more to make this part of the airshow happen. This is a fundraiser for the club and with one plane it won't last long. Right now we will take any kind Nitro or electric. Please look in your garage, shed, closet, under your bed, up your sleeve, for anything we might be able to use. It just needs to fly for a few minutes, just long enough to shoot it down.

Thanks for your help,
Adam

Fellow Racers,

You can't please everyone. We changed the racing to 2 short season's based on people's request. Some racers can't make it every time and did not want to fall to far behind. So we went with the 4 month season. We as a board decided to not have throw out's because of the short season. It now seems some of you are upset there will be no throw out's, Saying you would have done things differently. I think we should have put the throw out vote to the racers, not the board. Steve and I have been discussing what to do about it.
Personally I like the long season. Somewhere along the year people may miss a race or two but at the end of the year the points are still close.
I don't think our intention was to throw a curveball at you guy's, we just want to please everyone. I think we should have an eight race season with the endurance race in the middle of the year to mix things up. Just my 2 cents.
We will discuss this further and let u know. It will more than likely come down to a vote from the racers.
Thanks,
Adam

 ;DHey Racers,

We did some more testing this weekend and it looks like we have made the final choices for props and motors and such for the classes. We just need to hash out a couple of rules regarding airframes at the next Board meeting which is tomorrow night so you won't have to wait long. Cool
Getting out there and burning some laps has got my juices flowing for the new season. The two new Classes Dogfighter, and EF1 are Heart pounding to say the least. EF1's are hitting right around 115-120 MPH!!!!! And the Dogfighter's are hitting right around 100MPH. Damn fast for 3 cells. Shocked

More to come

 :)Hey Tony,

Lap times are going to be pretty short. Reno 450 saw 10 second lap times so a race was 2 1/2 min. It should work out O.K. for run time. Are you going to come on Sunday. We have not seen you the last few weeks.  Grin

  Tony,

Hopefully we have picked a prop that will slow it down enough for the T28 guy's to jump up and not be to intimidated and still be fun for you and I. We will be out on Sunday to do more testing and coarse set-up for the Dog Fighter and EF1 class. Come on out and burn some electrons with us. Grin

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin,

Well I would like to thank everyone for putting in there thoughts and ideas about classes for next year. At last nights board meeting we finally made a decision, which by the way in the end was a "No Brainer". We had quit a number of people that where interested in both the Dogfighter and the EF1 classes. Smiley So after much debate for the pros and cons of both classes we where going to put it
to a vote Ef1 or Dog fighter. I'm thinking to myself "how can we make both parties happy. So I suggested that we just run both EF1 And Dog fighter.
I'm Happy to announce that we will be running both The dog fighter and EF1. Shocked Yeah Baby. so we will be running 4 classes this year.

1st Class
Stock T-28/F4U     No Changes

2nd Class
Reno 450    One Change. You must run a 9x7.5 apc prop. This is going to slow the class down to give some of the other racers a chance to step up into a faster class but not be to overwhelmed.

3rd Class
Multiplex Dogfighter.  Since we just decided last night we have not hashed out a set up yet. We will get that to you in the next few days. Cool

4th Class  National Class
Electric Formula One. All the info you need for the rules is here.

I believe we made the right decision. I'm looking forward to some new exciting racing this year and can't wait till March.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, ..........Goooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin

  Hello,

At the last Board meeting we did decide on Two  of the classes. We will be keeping the T-28/F4U
class and the Reno 450 class. We will be racing the same rules as before with the exception of Props
in the Reno 450 Class. We will be Using a one size prop for the class to keep the racing nice and tight
and slowing the class down a bit for the guys that want to jump up into the next class.
As for the third class it will most likely come down to a vote for the two popular choices. Hopefully we will get those narrowed down for the next meeting but will probably be between The Dogfighter from Multiplex and Electric Formula 1.
Today's board meeting was postponed until next Tuesday so we will have to wait one more week.

Peace out
