Hey,

The National Miniature Pylon Racing Association, or NMPRA is the driving force in sanctioned pylon racing in the US & abroad. They are responsible for the rule making,  and field a team for the Worlds every year.

Recently they have proposed a new class called Electric Formula One, or EF-1. The planes resemble full scale formula one aircraft and are very neat!  This is one of the planes I have been working on recently. Anyway, if anyone is interested there is a great discussion over at RC Groups.

Should be alot of fun with $20 motors and $30 batteries.

Very nice. The $20/$30 motor/battery combo is significantly less than our Foamy warbird class where it's $65/($40-$60), and these models are ~50". Looking forward to seeing some of these going around our pylons.

I see the rules are here

Thanks for linking the rules Patrick, I guess I should have done that  Roll Eyes This does look like a neat class, and for me, there is the attraction that other clubs may run it and I could compete outside our little pond.  Cheesy Even a Nats event is possible.

I know for sure that Horizon is planning an arf "Pogo" LR1-A due in April for about $150. I'm sure GP and others are working on them as well. Apparently there has been good support from the industry.

I must be missing something, because the dimensions listed in the rules regarding batteries and motors translate roughly to a 25 size electric motor and a 4 cell 3200mah Lipo, and those are not in the $20-$30 range. I will say that I am excited about the larger size of the power systems, (bigger is always better in R/C) and hope to see the Wine Country Flyers add this racing class soon, with the goal of sending someone to the nationals!

The  Turnigy 25 SK 35-42 1250Kv is actually $17 from HobbyKing, apparently that's what people are using.

Horizon will release details of the LR-1A tomorrow, flyers on the forums seem to be happy with it, looks like a quick and simple way to get into this class.
