Flying radio controlled models is a challenge, as we all know. Member Jerry Leister faced some additional obstacles, but they weren’t going to slow him down. A motorcycle accident in 1997 left Jerry paralyzed, with just limited use of his arms and hands. In 2011, Jerry became interested in flying radio controlled airplanes, especially EDF jets. Jerry was determined to fly, so he designed a special oversized joystick that he can rest his palm on, and began logging simulator time. Soon after, Jerry began flying a Park Zone T-28 at the field on the buddy box, and improved every time he flew. On Sunday, January 29th 2012, the buddy box was unplugged, and he was on his own. Jerry performed a few takeoffs and landings without any trouble at all! A number of members were on hand to applaud Jerry as he taxied in. Great job Jerry!
